I started out many years ago making everything from scratch.

My lst thanksgiving menu while I was overseas in England with my Air Force Sergeant husband:

Hors d'oeuvres: olives & celery stuffed with cream cheese & cheese whiz

Turkey (it came out perfect and moist--had a gas stove, onion)
Dressing - made from dried out bread, eggs, onion, celery, chicken broth & sage.
Green beans with bacon fat (cooked forever)
Corn
Homemade egg noodles
Mashed Potatoes
Candied yams
Gravy made in pan in which I cooked turkey & cut up the heart and gizzard into it -- The liver I ate myself after cooked. Num num.
Homemade yeast rolls
Homemade pecan pie
Homemade pumpkin pie
Cranberry sauce (the one thing that came from a can)

I finally quit making homemade yeast rolls (but damn they were good!)
Made my last pecan pie 3-4 years ago. I now make my own cranberry sauces from whole cranberries.

Last year was the last year I'll ever cook a whole turkey. Can't do it any more.
