My cell phones are on a family plan that covers all of us. Out of sheer self-defense, the plan has unlimited texting - I'm not sure I've ever seen my son actually hold his phone to his ear. My son and I prefer the shockproof/waterproof "industrial" models over the easy-to-bust fancy-pants ones. He just got an upgrade because his old phone crapped out, so I now have the cheesiest phone in the family, with a 640x480 max resolution camera.
