Republicans may not be satisfied with it but NPR covered the facts and the people involved.

That Sheriff has got it right. We're going back to the Old West and, folks, I don't care how you feel about the right to bear arms, do you really want guns in the hands of people like this perp? NO ONE will be safe if the free-handed allowance of gun carrying continues. When will those who support the gun lobby realize what they've done? After THEIR daughter, son, wife, mother, brother, husband is murdered indiscriminately in something like this. It is indefensible so don't try.

I had to laugh at this, though:

A lot of us have felt like that about politicians, although I'm satisfied with kicking them out office; duck hunting politicians is off-limits.
