Socialism
I've been studying this issue for over thirty years. Also watched the American Left through the last twenty years of the Cold War, and what they did.
The current leadership of the Democratic Party has attempted, just in the past two years, nationalized health care, control of energy, transportation, and manufacturing, and has demonstrated a virulent hostility to business, the private sector, and almost any economic activity that is not under the rigid control of the State.
I think the valid question might be, if they were socialists, what would they be doing differently? Calling themselves "progressives" isn't kidding anyone.
