If you're just going for the microphone, the standard interface is the normal microphone jack. I think those would be cheaper than USB ones. Unfortunately that would be the microphone jack in back of your computer, unless Dell was smart enough to put mike jacks in front. My newest system was the first one I've had in years I didn't build myself, but whoever picked the case got one with a full set of firewire/USB/mike jacks right on top. Yay!
There is no such thing as too many USB ports. I've got a USB hub on each computer here.
