Re: things were just so great

^...I could talk about the declines in America's standing in education, science, infrastructure. I could talk about the increase in dependence on foreign oil. I could talk about the dramatic shrinking of the middle class. The decline of our international standing in the eyes of our long time allies. A thousand other things he fucked up.^

Cripes, this is really too damn easy. Look around, Buck.

As for the chart, did you check any of those numbers? Did the source show the methodology? For example, do you assume the numbers go from when someone takes office in January after an election, to when they leave it in January after their final term? Are the rules about net jobs, or jobs created then lost? Does the area under the curve count for anything? How were those percentages calculated? What were the unemployment rates during those years?

And are his numbers even accurate?

As just a first example, the civilian employment number for January of 1961 (Kennedy takes office) is 65.8 million jobs. The number for January of 1969 (Johnson leaves office) is 76.8 million. I count 11 million jobs, not 15.5 million. How come?

By the way, there's a line missing from the bottom of the chart. January 2009 to now is minus 2.63 million. Obama better win a second term, or he's going to have to crack an average of about 114,000 new jobs a month from now until January 2013 to just break even during his administration.

Of course, the chart is ridiculous. The study needs to be done on where the jobs came from (or didn't) during each of those administrations. What's changed during all those times? What's different? What's the same? How big and powerful was government?

Of course, liberals believe all jobs spring from the loins of Washington D.C., so they aren't really qualified to do that kind of thinking. Most are probably sure there must have been a Washington High Tech Creation program started by Clinton during the late 90s that was solely responsible for the high-tech revolution.

Edit: Corrected a late night boo-boo. Kennedy obviously took office in 1961, not 1964. Zombie Kennedy! Corrected jobs numbers too.
