Dr. Krauthammer is highly regarded and respected among democrats and is certainly not ignorant. He worked in the Carter administration and later was a speech writer for Mondale. Clinton called him a brilliant man and as far as I know he was with Obama on the conflict.
You might want to check his bio (the link) and see all the awards he has received including the Pulitzer Prize.
BTW, that is a broad stroke you are lumping. Many republicans were for this including me, but not in the way it is turning out.
