Leave it to you to read that story and draw the exact opposite conclusion to the right one.
You are looking at the end result of years of "progressive" ideas. The primacy of unions, wealth distribution, nationalized health care, and the welfare state as an ideal. England is far from the only country hanging on the edge of that abyss.
As Thatcher put it, the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money. See also my "taxing the rich" post.
