Socialism is the ideology of group think. Capitalism is the ideology of the individual. This is why so many leftists are in the democratic party. It's the party of identity politics. NAACP, NOW, La Raza, CAIR, unions, or the various congressional caucuses based on group identity clearly show the tribalism of the Left.

America was settled, intitially at least, by individuals seeking to break away and find their own way. The settlers pushing out away from civilization into the frontier for new land to make their own, the mountain men going it alone into the wilderness in search of fortune in the form of pelts and fur. The lumber jacks and miners with dreams of striking it rich by the sweat of their brow. Even the outlaw who wanted to gain wealth by robbing others was a rugged individual who played by his own rules. The rights and freedom of the individual to make their own way and live life as they see fit is deeply woven into America's psyche.
