Re: Oberman's Cornell Speech

This is a struggle for power, you are blaming the unions for doing exactly what you are doing to them, fighting (and in your case) winning, a war of attrition. It's the Right that has turned democracy into a money game, and now it is denying that weapon to its opponents.

You should know this perfectly well, you're always whining about how the unions are funding anti-Republican candidates. Of course they do. That's their job, what are they supposed to do, hold cake sales? Now that the ability of corporations to collect funding and use it in the advertising market place has been institutionalized, all that remained was to force the unions to stop doing the exact same thing, to take away their means of fighting. Now unions have been on the decline, for almost 3 decades, as your chart points out, but that isn't enough for the right, it has to go after the public unions which have at least managed to remain stable. This is strictly a war, spare me the self-righteous indignation.

As for whose side I'm on. Well, I don't own a business, I never have, and I have no intentions of ever doing so.. My self-interest lies with workers, not employers. Not that I've ever belonged to a union. But I've often felt the need to have done so.

All that Shirtwaist fire rhetoric isn't just breast-beating. That's exactly where we're heading again if you guys get your way. As far as your crowd is concerned, the rest of us are just expendable and disposable carbon units.

Yeah, I know. It's not personal, it's just business.
