I'm not scared of television, I just don't find it interesting. I do watch a few shows of the Discovery/History/National Geographic type, usually by taping them on DVR and catching up on them later. And of course I watch movies and some favorite series on DVD (I just picked up the Nero Wolfe TV show).
I just don't find the majority of television stimulating, or even a decent way to kill time. Sometimes at the local hamburger grill I watch things like network news, the "latest hip comedy," or some reality show, and my brain feels like it's being submerged in oatmeal. There have been some exceptions. I wish "Firefly" was still on, for example.
And it's not snobbery - I like comic books, and entertaining fiction novels for all ages. Last week I ran through the "Percy Jackson" series (I'm writing for that age group). Week before I bought and read all the "Rumpole of the Bailey" books. I eagerly await everything Terry Pratchett writes, and am following the Dresden File books. Nothing makes me happier than discovering an author I like who has already written several dozen books.
I like reading while I eat, and got in trouble in school for reading science fiction in class and still keeping up with the material.
Maybe it's some kind of ADHD thing.
