Insurance Vs. None

I just checked my health insurance site; they always notify me when a new claim is processed and paid. There was one for my last blood draw at Lab Corp here in Lee's Summit. They drew two tubes, one for my INR (that's testing blood thinning since I'm on warfarin) and one for a Metabolic Panel which includes various readings such as potassium, blood glucose, calcium, etc., etc. The bill was $528 of which insurance paid $48.77 and I paid nothing.

Now, how the hell is someone without insurance supposed to pay for blood tests? That is bloody ridiculous!!!!! We need to do something about this shit. If it costs $50 to do tests, it should cost that for everybody. The inequity is supposedly because insurance doesn't pay enough. So they're going to pay more because you BILL them more? I don't think so. They're sticking it to the uninsured and that shouldn't be allowed.

Color me pissed off for the uninsured.
