There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to any of it.

My last cardiology visit was billed at $114 which I thought was reasonable because it was fairly lengthy and included the cardiology nurse, too. Insurance paid $9.75 and I paid $50. Damn cheap if you ask me considering the service I get which includes a weekly call from the nurse and immediate access any time I have questions.

OTOH Lab Corp billed $64 for my INR test (blood viscosity) and insurance paid $2.44. Of course, Lab Corp should have the little finger stick machine like my Cardiologist's office does but they're too cheap to buy it. So they pay for the phlebotomist drawing blood, the tubing and have to run the test instead of pricking my finger and putting it on a cardboard tab for an immediate read. It's their own fault for being too damn cheap to purchase. I'm actually getting my own finger prick machine soon so I can test my own blood.
