I agree that if the Mexican companies can't foot their own bills for equipment and safety systems, screw em. But the issue seems to be primarily the government cost of the regulations and enforcement. Who pays for that for American truckers? I was under the impression that gas and road taxes covered that, but I haven't researched it. Any trucks on American highways would be paying the same taxes, wouldn't they?

And believe me, these Mexican trucker deals were being cooked up long before Obama hit the White House. I remember talk radio getting pissed about it when Bush was president. He had very low border-protection cred with conservatives.
