It's designed to get the 55 and over (the enormous baby boom vote) to acquiesce to an overhauling of the system that will undermine it in the long run. Our turn will come later, or to those who come in our place later. It's a cynical and transparent divide and conquer maneuver, to encourage class warfare across the 55 line, to provoke an age conflict that will sabotage the system. By giving the baby boomers everything they want and taxing the under-55s to the hilt you will be creating a constituency to oppose the system. It's transparent and shabby. Do you really think we're that stupid?
The fair way to reform entitlements is for everyone to give up something. The Right isn't interested in reform. They just don't like the idea of Social Security or Medicare. If they feel that way, they should just come out and say so and let the voters decide.
