You honestly think that the reason Democrats are terrified of any other solutions is because the other solutions won't work?
The only way to reform any failing system like this is to ease the reforms in slowly. You can't do it any other way. Many of these people have no other resources now, thanks to the Culture of Dependence. And yes, the younger generation is going to have to pay for some benefits they will never get themselves, but why is that any different than what we do every day with income-related welfare?
If something can't go on forever, it won't. We just have to choose whether to land the plane before the fuel runs out or crash it afterwards.
