I've always been a bit leery of "gold bugs." I have friends with a small stock of coins at home, but I've never actually bought gold. I do have some gold funds in my portfolio, but they aren't a huge fraction.
I remember gold in the late 70s when it hit about $1800 an ounce in 2010 dollars. Then fell like a rock. Somehow, I don't think this is the right time to buy a shitload of it.
And if we get into Road Warrior territory, how do you effectively use a 1 ounce gold coin? It's like running around with a wallet full of $1,000 bills. Who's going to make change?
