Re: Enduring FORTH

Thanks for the link to Forth Inc. Their history of Forth was a trip down memory lane. I was fairly active in the Forth community from the late 70s into the early 80s, and knew some of the people mentioned. I'll never forget a FIG meeting circa 1980 at which Bill Gates showed up. This was the pre-DOS Bill, King of BASIC, and the place was buzzing that the already-legendary Bill would embrace Forth and give it a boost. In retrospect, of course, I'm sure Forth programmers are unanimous that Forth dodged a bullet in avoiding being "embraced and extended" by the Colossus of Redmond. Or maybe not...who knows about might-have-beens? It would've been a Faustian bargain, in any case.

I would respond to your response, but I can't, not even in 800 by 600. The best I can do is post a new message, and then just barely. Since you are supposedly detecting my operating parameters, what's the use of telling you, but I routinely operate many old Toshiba laptops, in remote locations and extreme environments, powered by batteries, small wind generators and solar panels, so small screens are the norm for me.

However, your scripts are not working not even for the 800 by 600 standard

Cool your jets, Thomas, we're zeroing in on the target now. I set the threshold for proportional sizing to 800x600, and now I know it should be 1024x768. It's changed, my display is set to 800x600, and the message box is full-width and has ten lines visible.

I could squeeze a bit more room by reducing the font sizes. How do they look now on a small screen? Could they go down say 20% and still be legible? They're OK already for larger displays, which means I'll have to select a different stylesheet upon detecting a small display. Just can't get around the need to detect client configuration to adjust for optimum results.

, and I get a very clear "Javascript Error" before it wigs out on me.

It's not clear to me what JavaScript error you're getting, of course. Wanna share?
