My great confidence in my ability to observe and associate is necessary to my own personal survival.
On the other hand, our ability to accomplish great things, things that do not necessarily involve our own personal survival, is dependent upon the recognition of the fact that our knowledge of the world and the universe is woefully incomplete, and thus our ability to predict those things that we cannot directly and immediately observe.
When my power of prediction fails me, I often find myself in life threatening situations, where I then have to revert to observation and association for savior. This personal observation also presumably applies to the world in general.
Thus is the power of prediction, an ability that many have, but that some choose to disregard, ignore or overlook.
