Off Topic » in reply to Blatant discrimination, and the usual fun with sources.

You might read your citation.

What would religious (you’re sort of right on that, though many, many, many Israelis aren’t Semetic, and all Palestinians are) discrimination look like?

Are you saying there isn't systematic and formal religious discrimination against some Israeli citizens? Are you suggesting that Christians and Muslims have the same rights in Israel as other citizens?

Do you think the rest of the world, not the US of course, might believe that it is a human rights violation for the government to discriminate against some citizens based on religion?

What would happen if Ashcroft were able to say that in the US Muslims couldn't rent or lease government property? What if he added that it's not discrimination against Muslims, because NO one but Christians, not including Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses because they really aren't Christians, and maybe not Roman Catholics because they worship Mary, could rent or lease government property?

Why wouldn't that fly? Or maybe you think it should, it seems OK for Israel.

I know your answers to those questions. We've been over it, and I finally believe you. But someone reading this may get curious and read the entire thread. Soimeone else might believe the UN, various Human Rights commissions, and what the Israelis themselves say.

Next you’ll be telling me the LIKE being discriminated against. Good ol' Bull Connors.

From your citation -

“In fact, state land amounts not to 91 percent of Israel's territory but to roughly 80 percent; neither Arabs nor Jews can buy state land; the Jewish National Fund holds no state land; and JNF land is leased, with some restrictions, to Israeli Arabs.”

Some restrictions. Nice way of saying it.

“There are, thus, formal restrictions on the lease of JNF land to Arabs. That JNF lands are now administered by a government agency does not change this restriction, for JNF land is privately owned and to lease it on exactly equal terms to Jewish and Arab Israelis would violate the 1960 agreement that placed JNF lands under government administration.”
