Thanks Tom

My Dad is going to get a kick out of it also.

During my summer breaks when in school I would go help work my great-uncles ranch in west Texas. One time me, my uncle and a ranch hand where riding fence and looking for strays from the herd way out in the middle of no where when we came across a almost perfectly shaped large round rock covering a small cave. Clayton (the ranch hand) and I dismounted and proceeded to move the rock to see what was inside and to our amazement there laid the skeletal remains of an Indian with a bow and a quiver with arrows around his neck and large flint points partially buried all over the floor of the cave. This was one heck of an archeological find in my mind but when my uncle saw this he instructed us to immediately cover it back up and not touch anything.

He not only respected the land but also the burial places of the Indians of the past. One of the walls of his house was covered with frames of arrowheads and various Indian artifacts.

It’s really hard to explain but, he could be out in the pasture tracking mountain lions for weeks at a time in 95 degree heat with no food or water with him and only a knife and small caliber handgun. He was one of the toughest individuals that I have ever known and would go miles out of his way to help a stranger in need.

He was a 32 degree mason and extremely spiritual. Many of the old Texans like him that settled here where intertwined with the spiritual and Indian way of life. I guess you had to have inspiration and discipline to be able to hack the harsh conditions.

Regards,

Todd
