Remember, the Philippines is the only Asian nation that is predominately Catholic. They cited several examples of excesses, including executions, that they claimed were the fault of the Catholics during Spanish rule. However, it seems unlikely that a bunch of active Catholics could be anti-Catholic bigots.
They specifically cited the example of the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, who was executed for exposing the corruption of the Church and the Spaniards.
