An interviewer always has to use his head when making a hiring choice. But I don't think political views - left or right - should keep someone from pursuing a teaching career, or any other career for that matter.

I had a right-wing US govt teacher in high school. (He was a severe domino-theory proponent. Wanted to nuke Hanoi and invade Cuba. Wanted to increase troops in Viet Nam, right about the time America was deciding that we should probably get out. Thought Joe McCarthy got a bad rap. etc.). He was the faculty advisor for the gun club, too. He was a fairly competent teacher.

Further, though we disagreed on just about everything, we had some interesting discussions. I would be very sad if some kind of screening had kept me from knowing him. And obviously, he did not warp my poor, defenseless little mind.
