Re: Roots of Evil

It's all our fault again. What else is new.

There are some people who cannot believe there is such a thing as evil, even when their face is rubbed in it. There were probably Jews who, even as they were being marched into the gas chambers, were still wondering what they had done to deserve this.

"International Gallup Poll??" Who the hell cares what Panama thinks? I know what the polls in America said last September.

The liberal thesis is that if we just kiss the right ass, the right way, they won't be mad at us any more. They are unable to see that a totalitarian system--communist, Islamist, whatever--cannot share a planet with a free system for long, and that unless we are vigilant and well-armed, sooner or later they will have to try to take us out. Mexico, Panama, and the other nations condemning us have conveniently forgotten the American nuclear umbrella that kept them all from becoming Soviet slave states in the last century. Had the Soviets possessed a nuclear monopoly, the whole damn planet would be theirs today.

Some of this ambivalence and unwillingness to condemn evil may be rooted in the uncomfortable, if unconscious knowledge that Marxist totalitarianism is at the core of the leftist philosophy, but I suppose that's neither here nor there.
