but sometimes, they have to be fought. My youngest son is in the Navy. While his current duty is surgical tech instructor, he's also a rated field medic trained to serve in the field with the Marines. I'm certainly not eager for war, but I also know that sometimes, events can make a war unavoidable.
Back in the mid to late 1930s, Winston Churchill tried to warn the world about the menace that Hitler posed. He was largely a voice in the wilderness. Too many gutless politicians were of the Chaimberlain mindset that giving Hitler what he wanted could appease him into stopping further ambitions. All it did was strengthen his hold on power and make him more dangerous. Even giving him large portions of Chechoslovakia in the Munich Pact (how nice to give someone else's country away) just made him stronger. Finally, WWII broke out and the result was 50-100 million deaths. Churchill was to write that WWII should've been called "The Unnecessary War" because it could've been avoided had Hitler been slapped down when he made his first terroritorial grabs around 1935. In the end, avoiding confrontation in 1935 only led to a much more horrific war in 1939. It didn't have to happen.

Few people are eager for war
