First of all Mary Anne I want to THANK you for your response. I like rational, logical counterviews instead of rhetoric.
4.75 for a six pack of cola may help offset insurance costs - but I am not some blindly worshipper of capitalism who cannot see when it is used in an exploitive manner.
Price gouging, monopolistic practices and excessive corporate mergers are no true friends of capitalism.
Not all capitalists are created equal.
As for your comment about food - you may be right. Few have the time to cook anymore and everywhere one looks one sees that weight is increasing.
I don't think much has changed in the food content since the eighties - I think the serious difference is that computer potato-ism is epidemic and not offset by more vigorous excercise, walking etc.
The internet era makes office workers heavier. Before, the internet one ran to the copy room, the telephone and up and down flights of stairs - now one does it all from the chair and the mouse.
And it doesn't take much to figure that often some of the fast food services are also exploiting these "larger" groups as well.
Have a good, fat-free and non-exploitive week end Mary Anne,
;-)
