Changing ones' name isn't going to undo whatever it is he feels so bad about.
All these folks are completely ignorant of the tools needed to balance even the slightest imbalance in their consciousness.
Unfortunately, the US blew it by sending in kids who were pre-conditioned by protests back home to think the efforts in Vietnam were evil. Few of them had any real depth in the history that led up to the event and so many ended up hating the government and developing inferiority complexes.
If you take a five year old and tell him to put to sleep a rabid dog, then have his siblings call him a killer and scorn him - the kid is going to be very confused. The authority figure he will resent for having encouraged him to kill and at the same time he will resent his siblings for not having understood or supported his position. The whole concept of why the dog needed to be put to sleep is beyond him.
"I am who I am" shows that he hasn't learned from history or personal experience - that each and every horrible, negative event in a man's life can be turned into a greater good.
If Vietnam had been only half as horribly mismanaged, we might still be using draftees to fight our wars. Countless of others like "I am" might have been created by now.
Instead of ever discovering the positive sides to Vietnam, they loiter in the negative, with hate and self-pity, digging themselves deeper into despair.
WWII vets were older, more mature. They understood what they were fighting for and got back and rejoiced.
They were heroes and they saved the world.
In 1968 the tuned-out, drugged out, crowd wasn't compensated for hard enough by those who knew what was right. These drugged out, illiterate whiners helped contribute to the suffering of our men in Vietnam. From the treasonous acts of Jane Fonda to the simple historically illiterate sheep protesting at the colleges.
Now America isn't as drugged out. Protestors don't look as wonderful when the LSD isn't there to distort one's judgement.
No longer do we see burning draft cards - because those who fight have indicated their willingness and desire to do so.
The protesters of Vietnam saw only evil in the USA. They were told by their marxist professors that the US was engaged in imperialism - much as the kids are told this even today about Iraq.
Protests took place and were encouraged in the colleges. The only place you can find protests - is where IMMATURITYand IGNORANCE thrives. Intelligent, mature folks know shouting and screaming protests solve nothing - and, if anything, weaken ones just cause, lowering oneself to the ignorant mob.
Everyone else, not on drugs or worshipping Lenin - shook their heads and said "what's their problem?"
Communism IS evil. It denies FREEDOM. Our Constitution is built upon FREEDOM and we go to war to PRESERVE FREEDOM.
The US government acts to preserve the FREEDOM of our allies.
In WWII millions died to preserve FREEDOM in the world.
VIETNAM was about the FREEDOM of the Vietnamese.
KOREA was about the FREEDOM of the Koreans.
The Gulf War was about the FREEDOM of the Kuwaitis.
The War on Terror is about the FREEDOM of Americans.
IRAQ will be about the FREEDOM of the Iraqis AND the FREEDOM of Americans.
Those who can't comprehend this are trying to DENY others THEIR FREEDOM.
The PROTESTERS are the evil or ignorant ones - attempting to THWART OTHERS FREEDOM.
Not ironically, the protesters burn, loot, scream and shout...because THEY are the VIOLENT ones, THEY want to DESTROY. They are filled with HATE.
Only the ignoramuses of the world can't comprehend this yet...it's forgivable in someone 17...maybe up to age 24, but if they're any older - they have serious problems comprehending FREEDOM, and are likely to seem oppressive to others (though they themselves will be blind to this) and will have few friends throughout their life - and obviously they will be best suited to teaching young kids in the universities and attempting to share and multiply their embitterment and dissatisfaction with life.
