I took a look at the page that breaks down donations by industry (here), which links to two separate tables. To make it easier, I merged the two tables in an Excel spreadsheet, and did my own calculations of ratios. Here's the result:
· Democrat · Republican · Preferred Party
Sector · Contributions · % of total · Contributions · % of total · Party · Margin
Agribusiness · $3,088,789 · 19.7% · $12,584,408 · 80.3% · Republican · 4.1
Communic/Electronics · $34,888,920 · 62.2% · $21,184,731 · 37.8% · Democrat · 1.6
Construction · $2,688,691 · 24.9% · $8,101,152 · 75.1% · Republican · 3.0
Defense · $1,343,777 · 36.9% · $2,298,758 · 63.1% · Republican · 1.7
Energy/Nat Resource · $4,090,811 · 20.6% · $15,797,182 · 79.4% · Republican · 3.9
Finance/Insur/RealEst · $27,747,382 · 34.7% · $52,267,563 · 65.3% · Republican · 1.9
Health · $6,592,651 · 25.5% · $19,233,051 · 74.5% · Republican · 2.9
Lawyers & Lobbyists · $16,005,605 · 70.1% · $6,828,801 · 29.9% · Democrat · 2.3
Transportation · $3,360,702 · 23.8% · $10,788,572 · 76.2% · Republican · 3.2
Misc Business · $12,308,299 · 26.6% · $34,037,472 · 73.4% · Republican · 2.8
Labor · $23,078,101 · 97.1% · $684,572 · 2.9% · Democrat · 33.7
Ideology/Single-Issue · $13,606,102 · 56.4% · $10,513,996 · 43.6% · Democrat · 1.3
Other · $11,408,812 · 35.4% · $20,841,474 · 64.6% · Republican · 1.8
Democrats certainly have the fanatical loyalty of labor. Lawyers love 'em, but not as much as the energy sector loves the Republicans. I don't know where the entertainment industry is hiding in the results--unless "communications/electronics" includes it. If it's in "Other" or "Misc" (somebody explain the difference!), those categories on average favor the Republicans...as do most all industry segments.
