Re: Sometimes it's wise

Most flexible fuel equipped vehicles on the road are minivans, SUVs, and trucks, NOT cars. These vehicles can burn gasoline or renewable ethanol (E85) fuel interchangeably. However their owners are often unaware of this capability.

Check out this website:

The only cars on the road that are capable of burning renewable ethanol are the Chrysler Seabring and the Dodge Stratus. All the rest are minivans, trucks and SUVs. All the rest of the cars are designed to specifically burn gasoline, and the only way to convert them to renewable fuel is to mix 10 percent ethanol with gasoline at the source. Cars can burn E5 or E10 without any modifications at all and at the same time they displace 5 - 10 percent of gasoline consumption and reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by the same amount. Any fuel mixture with greater amounts of ethanol and the car must be modified, i.e. flexible fuel equipped, just like all those SUVs, trucks and minivans.

The Canadia government mandate is 5 - 10 percent ethanol mixed with gasoline. It's an early way to implement the Kyoto requirements. In the future all vehicles must be flexible fuel equipped, so that they can handle higher amounts of ethanol, or enable them to choose between two different fuels depending on market forces.
