...are part and parcel of what HZ for me...has always been about.
The pushing Anne Frank bit was over the top - but it has the desired effect. It makes one think.
I confess I read a little bit about her the other day in an old Time magazine, which helped to set the tone to my moral outrage at the clear anti-semitic revival we are seeing throughout the world and even here on the HZ boards.
Any student of history, can't help but see how the world if it imitates and justifies the acts of barbarians it will surely invite nuclear armageddon.
Yes, two wrongs don't make a right. Justifying terrorism now in some sort of retroactive masochism for past acts of ours or other governments is ridiculous.
Killing innocents is wrong. Killing non-combatants is wrong. If Palestine had an army, Arafat and his followers would be tried for war crimes long, long ago.
That said, I find the re-election of Sharon over his opponent equally inexplicable as his presence and attitude is obnoxious and anti-concilliatory to the extreme.
The US just authorized nuclear retaliation against weapons of mass destruction deployment against our troops or deployed against our civilians at home.
This is not a game. If the enablers in Europe who have slowly slid back to their pre WWII comfortable, anti-semitic position do not start to denounce the anti-semites and those who worship and support Osama - then their nations too, may someday be in the nuclear crosshairs, due to their inaction to curb the barbarians running around their formerly civilized cities and encouraging them to become more fanatical through their anti-semitic attacks on synagogues, temples and businesses.
We do not need to see a Muslim-driven "Kristall Nacht" in France in 2005.
If you are neighbors with anti-semites - some of it is bound to rub off after awhile. France's Muslims have helped push that, subtle but steady, anti-semitic
movement and rhetoric. In Europe it has been renamed anti-Israeli instead of what it is called in the mideast, anti-jew, but the goals and purpose are the same - to justify the slaughter of Jews in the name of Allah to whom they are an affront and abomination.
No, I am no fan of Israel - but I know prejudice when I see it.
Israel has lots of problems, but there is no solution for some except that "final solution."
My grandmother, whose home was Berlin, but was relocated to the remote countryside to the farms early in the war - helped several wandering Jewish families and other unwanted desperate folks - such as fleeing Polish soldiers.
When they would pass through - she would give them most of her own hard, field labor earned portions of bread, butter and potatoes. She helped bury the uniforms of any fleeing, terrified soldiers and give them some normal clothes to wear.
When one sees all people as human first, one can learn to value human life in all its diversity. If one can only see race or religion one will be doomed to see the world, and each person, in an incomplete manner.
Anti-semitism is an intolerable evil just as bad as calling all blacks the n-word. Defending the deaths of innocents is unacceptable regardless of their home government's actions.
It's just that simple.
