So what you're saying is that Japan was determned to promote her commercial interests by securing her sources of raw material, which required the pre-emptive neutralization of her rivals' military assets and strategic location. Hmmm.

Sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it? A trumped-up holy war of naked aggression abroad, for purely military and economic reasons, but sold as a righteous crusade of nationalistic virtue, self-defense, and the defense of others.

Japan justified this by claiming she was fighting for Asian liberation from European colonial domination, (Japan's East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere) under the leadership of her Divine Emperor.

This is why nations start foreign wars. The excuse is always Freedom and God, but the reason is always money.
