We've been married 20 years this June...
and I've never selected and bought jewelry for her. I learned a long time ago that most men shouldn't try to select clothing, perfume, or jewelry for a woman. If she selects something and says she wants it, I'll buy it without hesitation. When we were first married, we had no money (literally). Over the years, I just never bought her jewelry. I guess that's because it has no value to me. Apparently, she feels otherwise. So, I went and selected a very beautiful pair of pearl earrings. I figure that this one $400 gift amortized over 20 years isn't a bad deal. She's a terrific wife and it was certainly worth it to make her happy.
