Forming an estimate of how long any terra-forming would last must also take into account the effect of ionizing radiation -

Also, and this is really a quibble by this point, there is probably every reason to suspect that Mars is hit with and "extinction level" size impactor every 26 million years or so - the effects will be different in 1/6 gravity, particularly atmospheric effects -

In any case, the ionizing radiation is enough to kill nearly everything, over a fairly short period of time - so there would be little point in creating any advanced environment -
