I remembered after I woke up that "radiation" is used to describe any traveling particle which causes an ionizing reaction - There's alpha, beta, gamma, but I can't remember the particles -

Photons in the ultra violet range are radiation, and ozone can stop them - but if I remember correctly, ozone does not stop the other types of radiation, and due to their masses they are far more damaging -

Looks like I have to re-write that sci-fi piece which has a terra-formed Mars
