I'm not sure what myth you refer to. These boards (and maybe the historians too) have pretty much agreed that the reason for Apollo was Cold War competition. This tape merely confirms this.
When we have mentioned Kennedy, most of us have simply touted his leadership in setting the goal and putting it so firmly in motion that subsequent administrations wouldn't mess it up.
If there was anyone stating that Kennedy was a space activist, then he probably is not clear-headed enough to be moved by this bit of news, anyway.
