Over recent years there has been debate within the community of space historians as to the exact roles of the executive officers of both the United States and the Soviet Union in each countries space program. A most extreme view was that of Roger Launius, head of NASA's history office, who argued for little executive awareness and action.

In his memoirs, Krushchev provided us with a pretty detailed account of his involvement with the space program of the Soviet Union, and it was extensive. What this tape shows to many in a rather definitive way is that Kennedy was involved in the same in the space program of the United States.
