When I'm 65 I won't have a choice.

If I don't sign up for Medicare, I don't get my Social Security either. And nobody else is providing comprehensive insurance for people over 65 (you can get supplemental insurance). The "free" government service destroyed the market.

There are four nations with true single-payer health care: Canada (instituted at various times across provinces, but basically finalized in 1961), Taiwan (instituted in 1995), Australia (instituted in 1984), and the UK (instituted in the 1940s).

And even those are more complicated than simple single-payer, particularly in Canada where it's more like Medicaid than Medicare.

The health care systems around the world vary across the board, and each nation requires a lot of study to figure out what's what.

A child might not know this, but obviously you don't either.
