Ok, but this pillar or coma is not from a comet nor did it occur inside the Earth's atmosphere:

The much smaller streaks coming from the Hubble telescope and stars are due to light/photo exposure time. Mr. Maley gives a good explanation of the behaviour of the water/ice streak at his website.
