No one said "To hell with them"

except you. You have a wonderful talent for twisting other people's words to fit your preconceptions. Either that or you have a severe reading comprehension problem. I suspect the later.

It's up to each X-Prize team to determine the acceptable level of risk for their project and how to address safety concerns. Some teams will take better precautions than others. It's quite possible that someone will die attempting to win the as-yet unfunded X-Prize. If the contestants aren't willing to face that risk, then they should either work to improve their rocket's safety or refuse the attempt. It isn't up to you to decide.

You come across as one of those all-knowing (in your own mind, at least) "nanny-staters" who think they're qualified to determine what's best for everyone else. Guess what, people die everyday. An average of about 800 a week die on America's highways. Hundreds more die each week from illness, accidents, crime, etc. Nothing is going to stop that. Some people manage to kill themselves doing things like extreme sports. That's how they choose to live and ultimately how they choose to die. Freedom of choice means more than being able to decide on having an abortion.
