None of them are "accurate". But they kick butt on the big screen! I could find as many things wrong with Deep Impact as with Star Trek, making either one equally unrealistic. What would be truely realistic is if the Star Trek plotlines, and technologies, and panoramas, all took place ON EARTH.
No manned spaceships, no antimatter reactors, no matter-energy transporters. Just superevolved custom-made communities with:
- low energy consumption
- high tech telecommunications
- 100 percent re-use & recycling of waste
- wind farms
- fields of solar concentrators
- solar-powered air conditioners
- small lightweight aerodynamic low consumption cars sized in proportion to their passengers with cargo trailers and running on multiple renewable homebrewed fuels
- home refueling systems
- suspense and intrigue
Speculative?
- quantum computers (maybe we need one to decode alien signals - we can't yet) ?
- electronics with lifetime warranties ?
- nicer people ?
