Do you see anything that could be geysering, erupting, venting?

What does it say about Mars to find or suggest the possibility of, or even explain, present day surface activity, such as geysering, eruptions, venting, mud flows, ice wedging, channel formation and so on?

Doesn't this activity -- if it is real and not yet more "tricks" and "illusions" Mars is so famous for -- presuppose a living planet (regardless for the moment of the arguments over the presence or absence of martian biology) and doesn't the very idea of a presently active planet generate a little more excitement than the standard model of dead, dry, desolation?

There are those who apparently want Mars to be some sort of sere, lifeless, inactive quasi-Lunar desert world, and those who apparently want Mars to be some sort of 'almost Earth,' once an ocean world like our own and thus potentially an ocean world again.

It seems to me that sometimes these conflicting desires interfere with discovering what is really going on. A thing cannot be because it doesn't fit one's model of what ought to be. We need to get over it.

So do you see geysers or not? ;-)

Cheers, B R Felix
