The fog ruined it for me last year so I went to the top of Mt. Diablo elevation 3840'.
Had to be there before sunset and they lock the gates tell sunrise (camper rules). Cold and wind gust to 20+ but psoriatic. Made taking pictures of the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn with the telescope difficult whike waiting for the showers to start. High Cirrus clouds gave way to mostly clear skies yielding an easy 150 meteors between 2:30 & 3:00. I saw at least 500 meteors from 1:00 to 6:00 and some left particle debris trails that lasted for several seconds if not a minute. I took a one minute film shot (piggy back on the telescope) of the Big Dipper standing on the handle at 3:15 and three large meteors that I saw crossed the cup portion. I hope the pictures come out as there should be a few more streaks of light to count. Never seen anything like it, glad I made the trip up the mountain. Other campers (around 6) saw planets, moons, nebulae and star clusters for there first time and I had fun showing them, the rest (around 30) stayed at there camp sites making lots of noise.
I could go on and on...
