<Bin Laden is hiding out in the southern mountains of Afghanistan, the worst possible location to be in the eyes of an aggressor. History is full of famous generals trying o invade Afghanistan and failing miserably. Ussamah is hiding out in the caves and I doubt mere explosives will weed him out. I would prefer a weapon with a residual effect, namely anything in the NBC lineup, but most specifically blanketing areas we know he is in with chemical weapons or high radiation neutron bombs. In order for him to get out he must get contaminated, and he will suffer a long, slow, agonizing death, much better that anything we can do to him if we actually captured him ourselves (due to the bill of rights preventing cruel and unusual punishment).
Agreed, to a point.
No general invading Afghanistan ever had the world’s resources handed to it. And as for conventional weapons, we do have the capability to level mountains. A heavy bombardment of 2 to 3 weeks, interspersed with various chemical irritants, should result in one of 4 things.
1. Ussamah Bin Laden’s death to natural causes (i.e, the foolish attack on US soil).
2. Ussamah Bin Laden’s ritual suicide.
3. Ussamah Bin Laden’s hardened resolve.
4. Ussamah Bin Laden’s rush to better cover, thus exposing himself as a viable target.
Doubtless he is well-stocked in his bunker, but we don’t really plan to leave anybody above ground to dig him out.
Congress has done many asinine things that makes our situation difficult.
#1. intelligence agencies may NOT use informants with criminal backgrounds. (WTF?!!!) You can't send angels into the Mafia. . . if we need informants, damn their criminal background, we NEED any and all information, it is the difference between seeing the Word Trade Towers collapse and not.
Yes!
#2. no government official or agency may be allowed to specifically target heads of states. Congress needs to wake up and realize that the world is not a cuddly place for morality. Outside our borders there is anarchy, and this anarchy is not following our rules, nor does it give a damn about them. Every asinine rule like this ties a hand behind our back, or ties a ball and chain around our feet. Hopefully the realization that the world does not play fair will prompt congress to change some of this . . .
Yes.
