I agree with you, Larry, that aid to the refugees should be looked upon as a number 1 priority, true to the letter and to the core of the idea. The saving of lives should be of major.
However, there remains the mindset of the revolutionary. In a "Holy War", everything becomes fair play, including sacrificing your children for the common good, that being Islam. Cleverly receiving aid from your enemy will be looked upon as a small coup for the revolutionary.
These same points were mine toward the USA response (no, that is not lost on me). The end result is that we are both fighting for the same thing. We are fighting for what is believed to be right. The Taliban will battle for a world peopled by the children of Islam -- only. We will fight for the freedom of all humanity to choose -- be it religion, or politics.
We must be complete in our security. Investigations of the slightest breach in the camps must be thorough, to the point of knowing a person from birth to death. We must know who it is we are aiding, and who it is we are fighting. A free handout to all will only feed the enemy, strengthen their resolve, and extend the conflict.
