Re: Not Entirely True . . .

Winning the hearts and minds of the Afghan refugees will be a difficult prospect. We can offer them food, shelter, and medical care but that alone won't be sufficient as long as we're seen as the "Great Satan." We need to work with respected Islamic clerics to spread the message that Islam isn't a terrorist religion. Many Moslems are highly offended by the image of their religion being portrayed by the radical extremists, and rightfully so.

At the moment, it seems the only message the refugees are hearing is the message of the Bin Ladens of the world who advocate "holy war" (an oxymoron if there ever was one) and terrorism. We need for the Islamic scholars and clerics who reject terrorism to get their message into the refugee camps. A high percentage of the refugees are illiterate, so they can't read the Koran on their own. They certainly won't listen to the United States, but they might listen to respected Moslem leaders who reject terrorism. It won't be easy, but failure to try almost certainly dooms any prospect of ending terrorism. As things stand, every time a suspected terrorist is killed, another will rise to take his place.
