Re: Massoud and the Taliban

Thanks, DA
This afternoon I saw a very good report on the Afghan resistance; a french journalist had followed Massoud in 1997 for a while. Massoud, while charming, doesn't know any western language (contrary to the Taliban) and it was difficult for him to defend his cause over here. He did it once, but it was largely unnoticed. And later,in the program, there was a debate. It turns out the Taliban won't likely offer much resistance; they are far from strong and they are known to have shifted from allies as quickly as the wind changes direction. And they know nobody likes them. Even Pakistan seems ready to drop them. There is an unknown: where Bin Laden is. Afghanistan is a moonlike country, with mountains after hills after mountains. Once it's all over, the new Afghan government should allow tourism. Still lots of unspoiled areas.
