Did we shape Germany and Japan or did we lead them?

Well, I guess we wrote the Japanese constitution and made them sign it....
And we did kind of force Germany to do without a Fuhrer or a Nazi party......

Ultimately, we let them get on with it.
With the USSR breathing down their necks (Germany literally) they also saw which side their bread was buttered.
We also treated them with respect, something we failed to do after WW1.

Did we decide on their leaders, or keep a puppet in place - no. Did we ignore the wishes of the majority while the minority/elite slaughtered the rest - no.
