Based on what I have read and seen there is a definite distrust of the Northern Alliance. They are reputed to be among the worst of the Afghan drug dealers and many of the personalities are well known and intensely disliked by our military.
I believe the U.S. would like for the Taliban to fall before the Northern Alliance has the ability to presume power over the country.
