A news report from a couple days ago stated that some 40 Taliban commanders and 1200 troops had already defected. If true, this is just the first step at weakening the Taliban forces. Earlier reports describes press gangs forcing men to join the Taliban army. That doesn't bode well for their ability to stand up to prolonged attacks.
