Targeting anti-aircraft defenses is a sound military tactic. Once you've made the skies safe for your aircraft, you're free to concentrate on other missions like close air support. Disrupting communications not only hinders air defenses, it makes it more difficult for the Taliban to coordinate military actions. All of this bodes well for the Northern Alliance. The Taliban dropped a cluster bomb on a disputed airfield in NA territory just last week. With their airfields bombed and many of their planes destroyed, they aren't likely to repeat that attack any time soon.
Reducing communications and anti-aircraft defenses also makes it safer for Special Forces troops to move about in helicopters. It's all sound strategy built one step at a time.
